Patrick Mangus
Hi, I'm Patrick Mangus. Welcome to my profile!
Patrick Mangus is a nationally recognized communications consultant and non-profit manager.
He was most recently Executive Director of the National Aviary. During his four-year tenure, he concluded a multi-million dollar capital campaign, managed the $17.5 million expansion and renovation of the 60 year old facility, and nearly doubled paid attendance, reversing a near-decade of six figure losses.
He joined the National Aviary after a 30-plus year career in the Public Relations industry. A graduate of Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism, Mangus got his start in the P.R. business at Burson-Marsteller. There, as an account executive, he represented some of the country’s largest corporations. In 1981, he partnered with Frank Catanzano to form Mangus/Catanzano. Over the firm’s 13 year history, it became the largest independent public relations agency in the region. In 1994, he negotiated its sale to Ketchum Communications and became Senior Vice President and Associate Director of the Pittsburgh office.
In 1996, he left Ketchum to launch Mangus Consulting Group, a boutique agency specializing in healthcare, education and not-for-profit communications. The firm was later renamed Forge Communications.
Mangus has won numerous professional awards, including two Silver Anvils, the P.R. industry’s top prize. In 2008, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame by the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.
Mangus has served on the boards of directors of a number of Pittsburgh-area nonprofits, including the Horticulture Society of Western Pennsylvania, Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania, the National Conference for Community and Justice, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, the Society for Contemporary Crafts, Three Rivers Center for Independent Living, and the WQED Community Advisory Board.
